Back to School Fall Fashion

By Olivia Kaiser on August 28, 2014

Unfortunately, the days of summer sun, beach towels, sand, and tanning oil are winding down and being traded in for text books, backpacks and computers. As we begin to transition into a new school year we should also be transitioning into fall fashion looks – not full blown sweaters or jeans and jackets, no one is ready for that big of a 180 yet, but baby steps must be taken.

There are going to be many looks out there this fall season, some that we’ve seen before and others we wouldn’t have even thought of if it weren’t for the crazy fashion shows. Here are a few looks that any every-day student can put together before walking into class.

1. Romantic Grunge

That’s right–florals and leather. Mix-match and alternate between the floral print and the faux-leather to create a look that can be suitable for class, a drink with friends, or a night out. Seventeen Magazine inspires this look with accessories such as a bowler hat and adding a worn-in sweater. And those Doc Martins you’ve been wanting to show off? Now is the time – this look is just what you need for those heavy shoes.

2. Plaid

When is plaid not a fashion seen during the fall (or summer…or winter…)? This fall, change it up. You don’t have to tumble into the norm of wearing plaid as a shirt underneath a vest; instead, tie that shirt around your waist, find a plaid dress or a pair of pants, wear a plaid scarf or jacket. Don’t be afraid of wearing your plaid in a more bold and “look at me” way.

3. Shine

Everyone deserves a little sparkle and shine in their lives every now and again. Add metallics to your wardrobe this fall, just don’t go back in time to the 80′s with this one. Test out a pair of metallic jeans, or pair a metallic shirt with a blazer. Pave the way with a pair of metallic-shine flats, or accessorize with a clutch or purse.

4. Pastels

Pastels are no longer a thing of spring. Runways have been full of pastels being promoted for the fall. Just because fall generally means colors like orange, red, burgandy, navy and other dark colors, doesn’t mean you have to fall into that trap. Wear a light pink jacket, or mint-green dress.

The start of a new school year, can mean the start of a “new” you. Reinvent your image by being bold with pastels, plaids, metallics and florals.
